Mantras - Sound vibrations that permeate every cell of your being and allow your mind to dissolve and repose. But what are they? What do they mean? Where did they come from? There are so many questions surrounding these ancient syllables. Speaking about Mantras is the revelation of ancient secrets that have been kept sacred from several ages, secrets that continue to benefit humanity irrespective of its circumstances. Mantras are impulses or rhythms of the consciousness.
They create vibrations in the spirit. Their effects, influence, method and mode of working are all a mystery. In Sanskrit, it is said, Manana trayate iti mantra. Mantra is that which saves you from repetitiveness. A repetitive thought is a worry.
Mantras help to free you from your worries. Often we wonder why we chant some sounds without understanding their meanings? Can something beyond our understanding help us? The meaning of every mantra is infinity. It is a sound vibration beyond the cognition of the mind.
Secret mantra for prosperity
When the mind is unable to cognize, it simply dissolves and moves into a meditative space. The mantra is like a seed. Every seed has the potential to become a tree.
Similarly, these sound vibrations contain all the possibilities of creation. Some mantras are in the seed form, called the bija mantras. Others are fully expressed, i. Mantras are a secret. That which is kept a secret alerts the sub-conscious mind. The mantras work at the level of the consciousness. When we want a seed to sprout, it needs to be sown into the soil, hidden, a secret. If it is simply thrown around, birds may eat them up.
We can read and learn about mantras and their uses from books and the internet but that will only satisfy the intellect and not translate into experience. When we chant the mantras, or listen to them, we get purity of mind and word.Nowadays we tend to see secrecy as a bad thing.
On the personal level, the secrets people keep from each other are found as plot devices, from Shakespeare to soap operas, that lead to all kinds of conflict and sorrow.
In our post-Enlightenment and I mean the 18th-century kind world, do we need secrecy? Keeping the tantric practices secret from those who have not been initiated into them is one of the fundamental samaya vows undertaken by those who do receive empowerment in these practices.
When modern suspicions about secrecy are applied here, we find people suggesting that the secrecy in tantric Buddhism is all about the gurus or in Tibet, the lamas keeping the teachings to themselves, and thereby gathering numerous disciples, fame and of course, wealth. This is to see secrecy as a power issue, like the secrecy practised by governments or corporations. As you may remember, this was a poem about the decline of Buddhism since the time of Lang Darma, a decline caused not by too few people practising Buddhism, but too many practising tantric Buddhism:.
Masters who are lost in the errors Of not judging the levels of meditative experience Know nothing of the transworldly meaning. For every hundred students there are a thousand teachers, And nobody listens to the divine dharma.
For every village there are ten masters, And the number of vajra assistants is uncountable. Clearly the tantric teachings have become very popular, which should not be a bad thing.
That is to say, it was the same person who wrote all these Tibetan texts on the scroll which he picked up somewhere to reuse—it already had a Chinese sutra written on the front. So, for a start, we can see that he had no problem at all with tantric practices as such. Then he turned the scroll over and wrote some more Tibetan texts in between the lines of the Chinese sutra, an unusual thing to do: paper must have been scarce.
Interestingly enough, the text that was written above it is all about the samaya vows. There are different ways of presenting these vows, and this text uses one that was popular at Dunhuang, and later found its way into the Nyingma school: the three root vows see this previous post on the subject. These are: to respect the guru, always to practice the mantras and mudras, and to keep the tantric teachings secret. This text, then, seems very much related to our poem. The author of our poem seems to imply that the problems he describes are due to an ignorance willful or not of these vows.
So what does the text above it have to say about secrecy? The justification of secrecy seems quite clear here. When the master-disciple relationship symbolized in tantric Buddhism by the ceremony of empowermentfraudulent teachers can get hold of texts and teach others, without ever having had personal instruction. And finally, people might think that tantric Buddhism can be practised in isolation from the rest of the dharma.
It does seem to me that these were genuine concerns, not merely the justification for keeping knowledge and power in the hands of the few. The enlightened path to liberation is an eternal treasure That is found after having been lost on the road of samsara for innumerable aeons. The truth or falsity of this can be checked in all the secret tantras. References Karmay, Samten. Aris and S. Aung San eds. Tibetan Studies in Honour of Hugh Richardson. Warminster: Aris and Phillips: If in future I come across evidence for a female scribe, I will be very interested indeed, and will probably write about it here.
Would you be making an argument for lack of literacy among women in Dunhuang or in Tibet?
I wrote too hastily I think; I should have said that all of the scribes of identifiable gender were male. Many illustrious Enlightened Masters taught and practiced Hayagriva as a Yidam aside from Padmasambhava, including the great Tibetan Yogi Shabkar, who was initiated by Chogyal Rinpoche.
In his autobiography, Shabkar wrote:. Here he is in yab yum, representing the union of compassion with wisdom. This is a profound and extraordinary teaching from the cycle of the new treasures. In heaven, the lineage of vidyadharas remains unbroken; on earth, the lines and colors of the mandala have not yet vanished; in between, the heaps of sacred substances have not yet diminished.
Unsullied by demons and samaya-breakers, it still carries the fresh breath of both the wisdom dakinis and worldly dakinis. Despite his wrathful form, he is still chief among the compassionate, important in modern times.
Making prayers to Hayagriva is a swift and powerful means to overcome negative forces and obstacles including those caused by spirit harms.
Prayers to the deity are especially beneficial in these degenerate times when sufferings and illnesses are rampant due to the strong delusions of sentient beings. As a manifestation of Chenresig, the practice of Hayagriva also helps to develop compassion. The brave practitioner who meditates on this this monstrously beautiful emanation can overcome obstacles quickly, and understand His cry of Wisdom Dharma.

For the benefit of all sentient beings, I am going to listen to the teaching on the Avalokiteshvara guru yoga method. Guru Shakyamuni Buddha showed different paths, the Hinayana and Mahayana, or the Lesser Vehicle and the Great Vehicle, according to the capabilities of sentient beings, the objects to be subdued. Within the Mahayana path, there are two yanas, or vehicles: the Paramitayana and the Mantrayana.
Many people discriminate this way, not knowing that Mantrayana, or Vajrayana, goes under the title of Mahayana. Why is this path secret? It is said in the teachings that the secret mantra can be achieved with much effort and by keeping it secret. It is not said in the teachings that the secret mantra can be achieved by exposing it to other people like a supermarket. With much effort means by bearing much hardship.
No matter how long it takes or how difficult it is to achieve this path, you bear all the difficulties. After you have taken an initiation, you also have Vajrayana precepts, or pledges. No matter how difficult they are to observe, you have to keep the tantric samayas.
Is this the Most Powerful Mantra on the Planet? Its Benefits will make you chant it everyday!!
You have to take more care of them than your own life. By doing that, you then achieve the path of secret mantra. To practice pure Dharma you have to bear difficulties. The biggest difficulty you have to bear is facing your delusions. Not one sentient being has been freed from samsara, so there is no doubt that no one has achieved enlightenment, by following delusions, by allowing yourself to be under the control of delusions. You have to bear the difficulties of facing your enemy, the delusions.
Delusion is your enemy, and you are the enemy of your delusions. Without recognizing this, no sentient being has been freed even from samsara. There is no one who has become free from samsara by living a comfortable, luxurious life doing whatever the delusions want to do.
First of all, you can check the life story of Guru Shakyamuni Buddha, the founder of the Dharma. He practiced austerities for six years. Also think of all the difficulties that Guru Shakyamuni Buddha bore when he was a bodhisattva. In the sutra teachings, it says that when he was taking teachings from other buddhas, he used his skin as paper, his bones as a pen, and his blood as ink. There are many stories of the great austerities he experienced to receive teachings, of even one verse, when he was a bodhisattva.
There are many stories of the difficulties he went through, such as putting a thousand nails into his body, when he was a bodhisattva.Kurukulla Mandalam created during Gupta Navaratri. This knowledge is to be obtained from guru. A lot of sadhakas always do mantra jaap and sadhana of Dakshin Kali, but in kaulantak tradition mantra pronunciations and style is very different and even the mantra is slightly different.
This cremation ground is not the one where dead bodies are burnt, but this cremation ground is the universe at the time of destruction or collapse.
Agni tatva or fire element is its essential nature. Shakti never breaks the boundaries of norms. She herself is the nature and creates nature. Shakti is always in motion and never desires cessation.
It is ever new and is like magic. When one emerges the other hides inside, like masculinity inside feminity and vice versa. The Shiva-Shakti tattva is beyond gender and this mystery is manifested by tantra. When both the elements neutralize then one experiences Shivbhav which is completeness and Mahadev Shiva himself created it in the form of Ardhanarisheswara. Ardhanarishwar Shiv Shakti. For this reason in shakta tantra the naked pictures of men and women are drawn and one understand it to be vulgar but in fact this is totally wrong as shakta tantra opens the door through the secrets of body and its inner mysteries to beyond bodily experiences.
But this is considered very complex and most of the time the sadhaks degrades in this path and because of this the path is sort of prohibited too.
Kalika having both vama and dakshina path, the vama path is kept most secret and hidden from worldly affairs and only disclosed to the person living in seclusion, while as Dakshin path was disclosed to all sadhaks and also for the householders too. The Dakshina Kali is the representation of the complete Kali.
In the best tantra peeth of Himalaya established in the form of Kaulantak Peeth since yugas, all the worship procedures of Shakti comes under Shakta Tantra. Kaulantak Nath Maha Shakti Tantra. This shakta tantra is not a book but is collection of unwritten rules and traditions. Since Shaiv and Shakta believes both are accessible only through guru, therefore at first we present shakta tantra based photo of Kaulantak Peeth Peethadheeshwar Mahayogi Satyendra Nath Ji Maharaj.
